Like many people and companies around the nation, Ford wants to increase female interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). And to that end, the automaker has announced support for "Girls Who Code," a program for 6th-12th grade girls that focuses on computer science. BetaNews published a piece on the matter about a day ago.

The article contains the following statement from Ford: "Women are especially underrepresented in the tech industry, making up just 18 percent of computer science graduates in the United States....The number of technology-related degrees awarded in the United States is rising, but men alone cannot meet the demand. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts jobs in tech fields will grow to more than 9 million by 2022 -- an increase of about 1 million jobs since 2012. Women must close the gap."
